University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham leads ERA’s geo-energy research theme.

It is a leading international centre for energy research, with a reputation for excellence across a broad range of technologies. Research areas encompass bioenergy, fossil energy, energy storage, advanced materials, the built environment, smart grids and the impact of human behaviour on energy use. Our energy systems research then explores how different technologies will work together in a complete system.

Mutually beneficial collaboration is actively encouraged and welcomed and has resulted in licensing and spin-off activity as well as the development of national and global enterprise networks. Working with ERA expertise and facilitates, our Energy Innovation and Collaboration team are ideally placed to forge links between businesses and world-class academics, researchers and graduate talent throughout the energy field.

Major investment in world-class research means that The University of Nottingham has an impressive range of facilities and test-beds for energy collaboration and innovation, with the new Research Acceleration and Demonstration Centre due to be completed next year.
