The Horizon Education Grand Prix for Schools is a project supported by ERA and HyDEX which provides secondary school pupils with the opportunity to design, build and race a hydrogen car.
Keele’s Energy Demonstrators
Keele has a history of energy demonstration and experimentation. This includes the first trial for hydrogen blending in a gas network in the UK, known as HyDEPLOY, which successfully demonstrated the potential of blending 20% hydrogen with natural gas.
Midlands Green Innovation Network – a network for SMEs
The Midlands Green Innovation Network has been launched by ERA together with the Midlands Engine and Federation of Small Businesses. It aims to provide small businesses with the support they need in order to maximise their sustainability and to provide the support they need to develop green products and services.
Midlands Nuclear – cluster of nuclear organisations in the region
The Energy Research Accelerator has launched Midlands Nuclear, a body which aims to bring together the nuclear industry with the suppliers, researchers and skills providers in the Midlands.
The aim of Midlands Nuclear is to work on behalf of these stakeholders and the wider region, to make the case for increased and sustained investment into Nuclear and related industries in the Midlands.

Loughborough University’s Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme is leveraging investment in renewable energies (both grid and off-grid) to address the clean cooking challenge.
Trent Basin – community energy demonstrator
Trent Basin is a housing development with 76 energy-efficient dwellings which form an active energy community. This is soon to be joined by a further 100 homes and a school.
Tyseley Energy Park – energy innovation zone
Tyseley Energy Park (TEP), is an Energy Innovation Zone being developed in the City of Birmingham to help drive the transformation of the city to meet its plan for decarbonisation and the development of a clean air zone and was supported by ERA with its first phase funding.
